According to the report the attack took place in a tribal Waziristan region.

Islamabad: As many as eight people were killed on Sunday in two US drone missile strikes on suspected Taliban hideouts in north-west Pakistan near Afghan border. This is the fifth such attack after Barack Obama took over as American President.

Two missiles fired by a suspected US drone hit a compound in Sararogha, in tribal South Waziristan region, killing at least eight suspected militants, the News quoting officials reported on Sunday.

The strike took place apparently targeting Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud who is also a suspect in the assassination of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader Benazir Bhutto.

Around 30 people, including a top Afghan Taliban commander, were killed on February 16 as US drones had targeted a militant hideout in Pakistan's restive Kurram tribal region.

More than 32 people, most of them foreign nationals, had been killed on February 14 in a drone missile strike by a US in a Pakistani tribal region.

It was also the fifth drone attack in the tribal belt since new US President Barack Obama assumed office on Januray 20. The region, bordering Afghanistan, is a known haven for Taliban and al-Qaeda extremists.
