As
many as 7 lakh farmers from the four North Karnataka
districts, including Bagalkot, Belgaum,
Bijapur and Bidar have got the lion share of state government’s Rs 25,000 farm
loan waiver scheme availed from cooperative institutions.The
total burden on the state exchequer owing to farm loan waiver scheme was about Rs
3,449.78 crore which was announced by the Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar in
the recently concluded Assembly.According
to official documents, the Bagalkot district would benefit from Rs 474.30 crore (19,0892 farmers) followed by Belgaum Rs 467. 25 cr (26,8893 farmers),
Bijapur Rs 354.99 cr (1,46,452 farmers) and Bidar Rs 209.15 cr (1,00015
farmers).“The
presence of the strong network of co-operative institutions and movement is said
to be the cause for winning the lion share,” said Member of Legislative Council
Allam Prabhu Patil.Farmers
of Kolar and Chikballapur were the least benefited from the farm loan weaver
scheme as they would get only Rs 3.83 crore and Rs 11.70 crore respectively.Owing
to poor financial conditions, the District Credit Co-operative banks in both the
districts had disbursed meager amount of loan to the farmers.
The State government has also decided to include 2001 farmers
who had availed farm loan from the Karnataka State Co-operative Agriculture and
Rural Development (KSCARD) Bank to the tune of Rs 4.93 crore.
