Biren Patel had been residing in South Africa for the past 15 years and was running a grocery store. He was shutting down his store and heading for home when he was tied and robbed by two assailants.
The assailants then slit his throat before escaping. He was shifted to a hospital by some local residents. He died on Saturday. Patel’s family back home in Anand town of central Gujarat say that the government should help in getting back his dead body, so that they can perform the last rites of Biren Patel.
Minaben Patel, Biren’s Mother said “we got to know this had happened from our relatives in the US. There were no Gujaratis there either. It is difficult to bring back the body too”.
A relative Drugesh Patel said “the government should act quick and ensure that the body of Biren is brought back. We are not able to get in touch with authorities there as of now”.
