COIMBATORE: An alarmingly high number of 343 educational institutions, including 10 in Tamil Nadu, have been offering technical and management degree programmes without obtaining approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). This has come to light in the latest State-wise list of unapproved institutions released by the AICTE.The AICTE has cautioned students not to enroll for unapproved academic programmes offered by these institutions.As per the list (updated on September 22), Maharashtra leads with the highest number of 123 unapproved technical institutions.Delhi follows with 63 dubious institutions to its credit. Andhra Pradesh comes next with 43 institutions. West Bengal (23), Karnataka (22), Uttar Pradesh (19), Haryana (16) and Tamil Nadu (10) are the States which have double-digit unapproved institutions.“This list has been released to caution students. If a student joins a particular course despite knowing that it has not been approved by the AICTE, we cannot intervene and take action,” AICTE Southern Regional Committee Chairman R Rudramoorthy told Express on Wednesday.AICTE names unapproved institutions in TNCOIMBATORE: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has

R Rudramoorthy, institutions cannot offer degree or diploma programmes
which come under the purview of the AICTE without obtaining it’s
mandatory approval. The institutions in the State without an
approval include: Dr Jessy George Memorial Institute of Management,
ICFAI at Nungambakkam High Road, Adyar and West Tambaram, International
Institute of Business and Management Pvt Ltd, MERIT Swiss Asian School
of Hotel Management, National Institute of Business Management, National
Institute of Human Resource Development, Stansfield School of Business.
