A two and half-year-old girl died of dengue in a private hospital here late on Thursday night even as the city health officials claimed they were closely monitoring the area where the child was residing.
The baby was identified as S Lakshitha, daughter of Senthil Kumar (35) and Amsavalli (27) of Vaikolkara Theru near Woraiyur.
A few days back, Lakshitha had high temperature and was admitted in a private hospital last Monday.
After she did not respond to treatment, Amsavalli shifted her to another private hospital on Tuesday.
Authorities said the baby had symptoms of dengue and was tested positive for the disease.
Soon after the admission, she was shifted to the ICU.
“The health of the baby deteriorated fast. On Thursday night, the baby died,” the doctors said.
Meanwhile, City Health Officer (in-charge) Dr Rajeswari, who initially denied that the child died of dengue, later accepted after details of the baby’s blood test reports reached her.
“We are watching the area. We have undertaken fogging at the particular area. All steps are initiated to prevent the spread of the disease,” she said
