2G scam: 69 telecom licences may be scrapped
Etisalat, Videocon, Aircel and Uninor are among the companies whose licences may be scrapped.

New Delhi: In a significant fallout of the 2G spectrum scam, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reviewed network roll out of 127 new licenses.

122 of 127 new licenses must be fined, TRAI said. 150 mhz of GSM and CDMA spectrum will also be freed up.

TRAI has recommended cancellation of 20 licenses of Loop Telecom, 15 of Etisalat DB, 11 of Sistema, 10 licenses of Videocon, 8 of Uninor, and 5 licenses of Aircel.

TRAI said many new telecom companies also failed to roll out despite getting licences. It said such companies should be levied fine and their spectrum withdrawn.

TRAI also found some new telecom companies overstating their subscriber base.
