20 motorists challaned for not giving right of way to ambulance in Delhi
Based on the video evidence, those vehicles who obstructed the way of ambulance and did not move to left lane despite verbal directions and siren, were identified.

New Delhi: Delhi Traffic Police has prosecuted 20 persons for not giving right of way to emergency vehicles so far this year. All these prosecutions took place during the Green Corridor operations arranged for transferring live human organs, mostly between airport and hospitals in which the police installed cameras on the dash boards of the ambulances for assessment of the operation.

Based on the video evidence, those vehicles who obstructed the way of ambulance and did not move to left lane despite verbal directions and siren, were identified. Of these 35 vehicles, 23 were having registration number of Delhi, 8 of Haryana, 2 of UP, 1 of Rajasthan and 1 of Punjab. Special teams of prosecuting officers were sent at the registered addresses of Delhi and 20 offenders were prosecuted by court challan so far.

The penalty extends from a fine of Rs. 2,000 to impounding the documents for personal appearance of the offenders in the concerned courts. The matter has also been taken up with the Transport Authorities of Haryana, UP, Rajasthan & Punjab for similar action on their part against the errant vehicles registered there.
