2 Defence personnel held for attacking policemen

BELGAUM: As many as six police personnel, including a sub-inspector, were injured after they were allegedly manhandled by Defence personnel while tackling a violent situation at a Jatra at Ankale village in Hukkeri taluk on Sunday.The police arrested the three accused — Sachin Mokashi and Gopal Magdhum, both defence officials, and Sanjay Magdhum, an ex-serviceman.According to police sources, PSI Prabhu Gangenhalli along with his team were deputed for bandobast at Shri Ankallamma Devi Jatra. A few miscreants in an intoxicated state started pelting stones.The police tried to bring the situation under control and finally resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd. The police behaviour irked a few people, including the three accused, who allegedly targeted the police.Hukkeri police have registered a case.
