About 18 passengers fell sick in the Howrah-bound East Coast Express on Saturday after consuming food they had brought from home.
The train halted at Rajahmundry for about 30 minutes to treat the patients before resuming the journey. According to Rajahmundry station manager B Subrahmanya Sastry, a call was received from the Vijayawada railway station informing that about 18 passengers travelling in compartments S-9, S-10 and S-11 had fallen sick due to food poisoning.
The Rajahmundry authorities were asked to arrange medical treatment for them. After the train pull into the Rajahmundry station at around 7.30 pm, medical teams treated the passengers on the platform itself.
The passengers were given medicines and IV fluids before they were put on the train again.
