Panaji: About 12 Chinese films will be showcased during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), as China is the focus country during the event to be held here from November 20-30.
"There will be very important and profound films from China to be showcased this year... about twelve films or so will be from China this year," IFFI's steering committee member Vani Tripathi said.
"China is bursting with a lot of energy as far as their cinematic experience is concerned. We always used to say that Japan is doing well in South East Asia, but now it's China that is having a similar trend," she said.
Notably, India and China recently signed a film co-production treaty.
"We will also invite people from Chinese film industry so that there is greater interaction at various levels, including cultural exchange," a senior official from the directorate of film festival said.
Indian films are popular in China, but the neighbouring country has a different system. They have limitations on the number of foreign films screened there, he said.
