Following the grant of permanent commission the 12 women officers will be eligible for higher positions in the Army.
New Delhi: Indian Army on Tuesday granted permanent commission to 12 women officers from Judge Advocate General's Branch and Education Corps. The women officers had been granted Short Service Commission between 1996-2005.
The first ever board for grant of permanent commission to women officers was held in November this year. Based on the board's recommendation, the women officers have been granted permanent commission.
Following the grant of permanent commission the 12 women officers will be eligible for higher positions in the Army. They will also been entitled to pension and other benefits.
Out of the 35,377 officers in the Army, only 1,065 are women. Till women officers were only given short service commission of five to 14 years.
