BANGALORE: A small accident at a bus stop which resulted in the death of a 65-year-old has raised doubts on the credibility of 108 ambulance service. An aged couple Vasudeva and Vasantha were at Kengeri Satellite bus stop when Vasantha went to relieve herself, she returned and saw her husband lying on the ground, injured. Passersby called 108 ambulance but were told that they were busy and the ambulance couldn’t reach the spot.“We called the 108 many times but no ambulance was free. After an hour, the man succumbed to injuries and when the ambulance arrived, they refused to help the old lady, claiming that they do not carry dead bodies,” said Manjunath, an on-looker.However, the emergency management service that runs 108 ambulance service retorted saying that passersby could have rushed the patient to a hospital. “Upon getting second call, we were about to divert one, but we learnt that the patient had not survived. We don’t carry dead bodies,” said D V Badrinath, COO, GVK Emergency Research Institute.
