Turn Off Reddit's NSFW Filter to Unblur Adult Photos & Posts
Are you tired of seeing blurred-out posts on Reddit? If Reddit's NSFW filter is turned on, content marked as Not Safe For Work (NSFW) is automatically blurred out or hidden by the mobile app and website by default. If you want to be able to see adult content clearly, it's easy to turn off the NSFW filter on your computer, Android, iPhone, or iPad. We'll show you how!
Things You Should Know
  • On an Android, tap your profile picture in the Reddit app, go to Settings, then tap the switch next to "Show NSFW content."
  • On an iPhone, go to Settings > Reddit and tap the switch next to "Show NSFW Content (18+)."
  • On a computer, click your profile picture, go to User Settings > Feed Settings and enable "Adult content."

Android App

Open Reddit. Tap the app icon that looks like the Reddit icon on an orange background.

Tap your profile picture. It's in the top right corner of your screen and will prompt a menu to open.

Tap Settings. This is next to a gear icon at the bottom of the menu.

Tap the switch next to "Show NSFW content (I'm over 18)" to toggle it on Android 7 Switch On. If the switch is blue and pointing to the right, the setting is enabled so you can see NSFW content as you browse Reddit. If you want to blur adult content images, tap the switch next to "Blur NSFW Images" to turn it on. After that, anyone who's peeping over your shoulder won't be able to see the images on your screen! You can unblur these images by tapping on them.

iPhone

Open Settings. Tap the app icon that looks like a pair of gears on a light grey background.

Scroll down and tap Reddit. You'll need to scroll down to find this option in your installed apps.

Tap the switch next to "Show NSFW Content (18+)" to toggle it on iPhone Switch On Icon. If you'd like to enable adult content but keep it blurred, you can tap to enable the switch next to "Blur NSFW Images." Close the Reddit app and open it again to apply your changes. If this method does not work for you, use the mobile browser instead of the app.

Mobile Browser

Go to https://www.reddit.com/ in a web browser on your phone or tablet. Use any web browser that you like on your phone or tablet. You may be prompted to continue using the app in a menu that slides up from the bottom of your screen. Tap Continue next to the icon of your web browser to continue in the mobile browser. Log in if you aren't logged in. To do this, tap the three-line menu icon in the top right corner, then tap "Sign Up or Log In."

Tap the ☰ menu. It's at the top-right corner of the page.

Tap Settings. It's the gear icon in the menu.

Tap Account settings. This opens the same version of the settings page that you'd see if you were using a computer.

Tap the Feed Settings tab. This is a tab that runs horizontally across your screen with other options like Account, Profile, and Safety & Privacy.

Tap the switch next to "Adult content" to toggle it on Android 7 Switch On. If the switch is colored and pointing to the right, the setting is enabled. This means that you'll see NSFW content as you browse Reddit. As soon as you switch the toggle, you'll see a "Changes Saved" notification from Reddit at the bottom of your screen. You can also enable "Safe browsing mode" so any images tagged NSFW appear blurred by tapping the next switch.

Close your browser and restart the Reddit mobile app. You can continue browsing with your mobile browser to view NSFW content, or you can continue in the Reddit mobile app since you've already changed your account settings.

Computer Web Browser

Go to https://www.reddit.com in a web browser. If you’re not already signed in to your Reddit account, click the LOG IN button at the top of the page to sign in now.

Click your Reddit username. It’s at the top-right corner of the page. A menu will expand.

Click User Settings. It's at the top of the menu under "My Stuff."

Click the Feed Settings tab. It's near the top-center part of the page.

Slide the "Adult content" switch to On Android 7 Switch On. This allows NSFW content to appear in your feed and search results.

Slide the “Safe browsing” switch to Off Android 7 Switch Off. If this switch is On (blue), NSFW/adult thumbnails and previews will be blurred in the feed and on the search page. If you want these images to be clear, turn the switch Off (white/gray). Due to regulations by the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, some NSFW content may appear blurred in the search results, even after changing these settings.

What's your reaction?
