How to Get All the Caps in Super Mario 64

Obtaining The Wing Cap

Make sure you have 10 power stars, then step on the mat.

Press C Up on the controller to enter first-person mode, then look up.

Fly to the center platform and jump on the switch. All red Item Blocks will become solid and you will be able to become Wing Mario, allowing you to soar to new heights.

Obtaining The Metal Cap

After beating Bowser 1, go into the wooden door in the foyer.MetalCapStep1.png

Go down the long staircase. You should see a door with a lock in the middle. Since you've already beaten Bowser 1, it should be unlocked, so enter.

Move into the hallway and open the next wood door.

If you go to the right and then go straight, you'll see a painting of a fireball with a face. Ignore it and go to the right.

Enter the star door with no letter on it. You'll see a pool of metal. Don't worry, it's not molten, so dive in.

Select a random star.

Now that you're in Hazy Maze Cave, go to the left and long jump over the pit, then go through the door.

Go to the place where you probably got the Watch For Rolling Rocks star, and go down the elevator. Remember to heal up first!

Swim to and jump on Dorrie. You'll see the Swimming Beast In The Cavern star, but do not grab it. Instead, ground pound Dorrie and stand on its head, then wait for it to go to the metal platform.MetalCapStep9.png

Jump off of Dorrie and go through the metal double door. You'll see another metal pool. Again, dive in.

Go through the obstacle course and press the green switch. All green Item Blocks will become solid and you will be able to become Metal Mario, making you mostly invincible.

Obtaining The Vanish Cap

Go to the star door where you got the Metal Cap, and go right. Enter the next wooden door that you see.

Swim through the tunnel.

Ground-pound both pillars. The water level should deplete.

Go through the metal door and look for a hole. After you do find one, jump in it.

Slide down, then complete the obstacle course and press the blue switch. All blue Item Boxes will become solid and you will be able to become Vanish Mario, allowing you to walk through certain walls.
