How to Find & Evolve Honedge into Doublade & Aegislash
Honedge was introduced in the sixth generation of Pokémon games (X/Y and Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire) as a steel and ghost-type Pokémon that takes the shape of a sword. Whether you’re playing Pokémon Sword/Shield, X/Y, Sun/Moon, or Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, evolving Honedge into its second form, Doublade, is as simple as training it to level 35. In this article, we’ll show you where to find Honedge in each game and how to evolve Honedge into Doublade and Aegislash.
Things You Should Know
  • Train Honedge to level 35 to evolve it into Doublade.
  • Give Doublade a Dusk Stone at any level to evolve it into Aegislash.
  • Find Honedge in Hammerlocke Hills in Sword/Shield, Route 6 in X/Y, or using the Island Scan on Akala Island in Sun/Moon.

Evolving Honedge to Doublade

Train Honedge to Level 35 to evolve it. Battle with your Honedge to gain Experience Points and level it up to Level 35. Or, use experience-boosting items to make leveling up faster, like: Rare Candy: Give this item to your Pokémon to increase their level by 1. Find it at: Pokémon Sword/Shield: Route 2, 4, and 6; Axew's Eye, Battle Tower, Hammerlocke, Wyndon, and Wyndon Stadium Pokémon X/Y: Route 13, 16, 17, and 18; Parfum Palace, Ambrette Town, Couriway Town, Victory Road, and Lydsandre Labs Pokémon Sun/Moon: Route 6, Aether House, Aether Paradise, Battle Tree, Brooklet Hill, Hau'oli City, Lush Jungle, Melemele Sea, Po Town, Poni Wilds, Royal Avenue, and Vast Poni Canyon Exp. Share: This item gives experience to all the Pokémon in your party, not just the ones that participate in the battle. Get the Exp. Share in: Pokémon X/Y: Santalune City after defeating Viola and talking to Alexa Pokémon Sun/Moon: Route 1 after talking to Kukui The Exp. Share does not exist in Pokémon Sword/Shield. Lucky Egg: The Pokémon that holds this item receives 150% of the normal experience it would get from battle. Find the Lucky Egg in: Pokémon Sword/Shield: Hulbury after running deliveries for the cook at The Captain's Table Pokémon X/Y: Coumarine City after talking to a girl in the hotel lobby and showing her a Pokémon with a high friendship level Pokémon Sun/Moon: Route 1 after talking to Kukui and filling 50 Pokémon in your Pokédex Wild Chanseys have a rare chance of carrying Lucky Eggs. You can also get one from beating Graffiti Eraser level 2 in the PokéMileage Club.

Allow the Honedge to evolve. Once you get your Honedge to level 35, it will start to evolve into Doublade. There aren't any time or item requirements to get it to evolve—the evolution happens automatically.

Catch a wild Doublade in Sword/Shield. Doublades exist in the wild in Pokémon Sword/Shield but not in X/Y or Sun/Moon. To catch a Doublade, head to Giant’s Cap or Lake of Outrage in the Wild Area. In either area, there’s a 25% chance of encountering a Doublade in the grass during a snowstorm. Wild Doublades are between level 50 to 52. You can also find Doublades during Max Battle Raids at the Watchtower Ruins or Stony Wilderness (just Shield).

Evolving Doublade to Aegislash

Give Doublade a Dusk Stone to evolve it into Aegislash. The only way to evolve a Doublade in Pokémon Sword/Shield, X/Y, or Sun/Moon is to give it a Dusk Stone; leveling it up does not evolve it into Aegislash. Just give the Dusk Stone to Doublade to begin the evolution sequence—you now have an Aegislash! Giving Doublade the Dusk Stone consumes it, so you can’t use the same Dusk Stone twice. There are certain moves Doublade can learn through leveling up that Aegislash can’t. Consult a list of Doublade’s moves to figure out when you want to evolve it.

In Sword/Shield, find Dusk Stones in Lake of Outrage or Stow-on-Side. If you don’t already have a Dusk Stone, there are several located around Galar. In Lake of Outrage, Dusk Stones respawn behind rocks in the stone circle towards the northwest of the island. Or, find a Dusk Stone behind the Pokémon Center in Stow-on-Side. You also have a small chance of receiving a Dusk Stone by talking to the Digging Duo in Bridge Field in the Wild Area.

In X/Y, find a Dusk Stone in Terminus Cave. The easiest way to get a Dusk Stone is to head into Terminus Cave from Route 18, which requires you to beat Team Flare at their HQ in Geosenge Town. Just enter the cave, go to the second basement level, and look for the stone towards the far left of the map and to the left of a stalactite containing an Iron. You can also find Dusk Stones by: Beating Level 6 of the Secret Super Training minigame. Winning the Aegislash balloon bot gives you a 1 in 5 chance of receiving a Dusk Stone. Winning Level 3 of the Balloon Popping game in the PokéMileage Club. Beating the trainer "Psychic Inver" on Route 18 with a score of 7-9. In this battle, pokémon type strengths and weaknesses are reversed. Your score is the number of "It's super effective" hits you make minus the number of "It's not very effective" hits. The Dusk Stone is 1 of 10 possible prizes. Beating a Team Flare Grunt in Laverre City after defeating the Elite Four.

In Sun/Moon, find a Dusk Stone in the Poni Wilds. Travel to Poni Island and head to the west to enter the Poni Wilds. In Sun or Moon, locate the Dusk Stone under the water and near the fishing hole. In Ultra Sun or Moon, find the Dusk Stone on the ramp to the east of the entrance into the Poni Wilds.

Catch a wild Aegislash in Sword/Shield. Like wild Doublades, wild Aegislash only exist in Pokémon Sword or Shield, not X/Y or Sun/Moon. Aegislash can make a very rare, singular appearance in Giant’s Cap in the Wild Area. It floats around in the overworld during foggy weather. The Aegislash will be at level 56.

Finding Honedge in Pokémon Sword/Shield, X/Y, and Sun/Moon

In Sword/Shield, find Honedge in Hammerlocke Hills. Head over to Hammerlocke Hills in the northern part of the Wild Area. If it’s foggy, you have a 45% chance of seeing Honedge in the overworld, or seeing it walk around. If there’s a snowstorm, you have a 15% of encountering Honedge in the grass. Wild Honedges are around levels 29 to 31, so make sure your team is strong enough to battle them. You can also encounter Honedges in Max Raid Battles at the Dusty Bowl, Giant's Seat, Stony Wilderness, and Watchtower Ruins.

In X/Y, find Honedge on Route 6. Make your way to Route 6, which connects Route 7 to the Parfum Palace. Route 6 is marked by 2 rows of shade trees along the sides of a central path. Just walk through the tall grass behind the trees to encounter a wild Honedge. You have about a 15% chance of encountering Honedges in the tall grass. You’ll likely fight a handful of Oddishes and Sentrets before you find a Honedge. Wild Honedges appear at levels 11 to 12. If you are playing Pokémon Alpha Sapphire or Omega Ruby, you can only get Honedge through trading. Honedge is not found in the wild in these games.

In Sun/Moon, find Honedge in Akala Outskirts using an Island Scan. Pokémon Sun, Moon, and the respective Ultra versions introduced a QR scanner in the game that allows you to gain points in order to use an Island Scan. The Island Scan gives you 1 hour to catch a wild pokémon that’s not found in the Alola Pokédex. When you scan Akala Island on a Wednesday, you can catch a Honedge. Find the Honedge in the Akala Outskirts, which are located east of Memorial Hill and south of the Ruins of Life. The Honedge will be at level 23.
