How to Find a Fellow Nerd to Fall in Love with
Having trouble finding the special someone to play the next MMORPG with? Do you want someone to discuss the most recent season of Doctor Who? Are you lacking the Chewbacca to your Han Solo? Or someone to complain to that it's actually Han Solo and Leia not Chewbacca?
Steps

Getting Ready

Look your best. You're most attractive when you're clean and well-rested. Take good care of your hygiene and your health. Shower daily, making sure to wash under your arms and in any other areas that tend to sweat. Only wash your face with facial soap; regular soap can clog your pores. Brush your teeth twice a day, moving the brush in strong circles. Don't forget to floss as well. Wear clean clothes. Brush your hair so that it looks neat. Clean your glasses before putting them on.

Advertise your nerdiness, if desired. Looking like a nerd can help other nerds identify you, and it may attract them. Dress in a preppy or geeky style. Wear a T-shirt with your favorite nerdy slogan, or pictures of your favorite nerdy things. Hang out with other nerds.

Keep an open mind. While it's nice to look for a fellow nerd, don't eliminate someone just because they don't seem nerdy to you. They may have a hidden nerdy side, or they may be open to exploring nerd culture with you. Or you may discover that dating a nerd isn't as important as you thought.

Meeting People

Look around you. Consider what traits you're hoping for in a partner, and look around to see who might have some of those traits.

Join a group or two related to your interests. These groups can provide a place to meet people, and also just be a lot of fun. Look for local social groups, and try out a few of them. Bands Community service groups Clubs: game club, chess club, book club, film club, improv club, speech club, etc. Seminar series Sports teams (Nerds can be fit too!)

Spend time in places where people gather and chat. These can be nice places to strike up conversations and make new acquaintances. Community centers Libraries Coffee shops Parks

Attend events, nerdy and otherwise. Go to Star Wars conventions, start a weekly D&D party, or go to local video game tournaments. Nerds tend to be shy, so you should try to meet them where they're comfortable (it's okay if you're as shy as they are!).

Volunteer. Check out local museums, theaters, galleries, hospitals or even parks and donate your time to helping others learn more about the subjects you love. It's a great way to meet other volunteers and people with similar interests.

Be open to online dating. Getting a date can be hard, especially if you're shy. It can also help you meet nerds who might otherwise be too shy to put themselves out there.

Making a Move

Be approachable. Avoid looking too busy or focused on something. Try making brief eye contact and smiling if you see someone noticing you. Keep a relaxed, positive facial expression, and use open body language. This signals to other people that you are willing to chat.

Notice signs that someone might be interested in being approached. If someone is interested in chatting, then they won't be busy, and they'll have open body language. They'll probably smile and make eye contact a little. If you get these signs, then the person is probably okay with you talking to them. They look at you, then look away and smile. They don't seem to be very busy. They've turned their body more towards you.

Begin a pleasant conversation. Show interest in them and what they like. Ask questions to find out more about them, and respond positively. This can help you get to know each other, and make the conversation enjoyable for them. "Is that a BB-8 bag? What did you think of episode 7?" "What are your interests?" "So you're from Sacramento? What's it like there?" "I was just admiring your TARDIS pencil case. Where did you get it?" "That looks like a really cool computer program you're creating. What does it do?"

Treat them with respect. People want to date people who will treat them well, so you need to show that you hold them in high regard. Show that you care about their opinions, their favorite things, and them in general. Always avoid sexist, racist, etc. attitudes. These can turn people off very quickly. Never disrespect anyone for not having as much "nerd cred" as you do. New nerds, and people just discovering a new interest, deserve to be welcomed and treated well. Showing disdain for someone is a fast way to ruin a relationship.

Consider making the first move. If you're dating a fellow nerd, it's possible that they'll be shy. It's also possible that they'll mistake your romantic interest for friendship, so you need to be clear that you would like something more. Here are some examples: "Would you like to see a movie with me?" "Will you be the Harry to my Ginny?" "I think you're really interesting and pretty, and I get excited about spending time with you. Would you like to go out sometime?"

What's your reaction?
