Zendaya’s Euphoria Season 3 On Hold As Makers Rewrite Script
Euphoria faced the challenge of coordinating with the busy actors and made the decision to allow them to take other acting projects during the delay.

Filming for the long awaited season three of Euphoria has hit a pause button. The gripping drama by Sam Levinson was gearing up to kick start its production in the coming months, but the plans have taken a back seat to grant Levinson more time to rewrite the scripts. The last season, which aired over two years ago, gave much deserved push to the careers of its cast, including Dune star Zendaya, Anyone But You actress Sydney Sweeney, Saltburn fame Jacob Elordi, Colman Domingo and Storm Reid, among others. HBO faced the challenge of coordinating with these busy actors and made the decision to allow them to take other acting projects during the delay. Amidst rumours of the third season’s cancellation, reports indicate that the script for season 3 is still in the works.

As per Variety, the makers in a statement said, “HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season. In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”

In November 2023, HBO had confirmed that Euphoria Season 3 was set to premiere in 2025, marking a three year gap since Season 2 debuted in January 2022. With such a lengthy delay, speculations started making rounds on the internet, about the upcoming season taking a five years leap. Adding to the buzz, Jacob Elordi, during an interview with Jimmy Fallon in January humorously commented on the delay and said, “I hope it’s soon, or they’re going to have Benjamin Button me or something. I’m going to have a bad back walking down the hallway, you know?”

During the same period, as per Hollywood reports, HBO chief Casey Bloys had disclosed that several highly anticipated series, including Euphoria, House of the Dragon, White Lotus, Welcome to Derry, and all the Game of Thrones prequel show, were postponed to 2025 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Along with Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Colman Domingo and Storm Reid, Euphoria also stars Maude Apatow, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Nika King and Austin Abrams. The show follows the journey of Rue, played by Zendaya, a teenager going through addiction as she attempts to maintain being sober and high school life post rehab. Over the years, the series has earned multiple awards, including Zendaya, who won two Emmys. Despite its popularity, many have raised concerns over the show’s sexual content and drug usage.
