The 96th Academy Awards evening became a happy event for Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr. He won the Best Supporting Actor award for his role as Admiral Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. This was not his first nomination at the Oscars, but his much-awaited first win. Earlier, he received Oscar nods in 1993 for his portrayal of Charlie Chaplin in Chaplin and in 2009 for Tropic Thunder. Along with Robert Downey Jr., his Iron Man co-star Gwyneth Paltrow also celebrated this moment.
A video of Gwyneth Paltrow which was initially shared on her IG story is doing rounds on social media now. The actress is seen celebrating Robert Downey Jr’s Oscar win. She watched the event on her laptop and as soon as the winner’s name was announced, she cheered loudly for the actor. Reportedly, she’s been friends with the actor for more than a decade, since the two were cast as Tony Stark and Pepper Potts in 2008’s Iron Man. They went on to star in two more independent Iron Man films and starred together in several other Marvel films, including Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, and others. Gwyneth Paltrow is also an Oscar winner, having received the Best Actress award at the 1999 Academy Awards for her portrayal in Shakespeare in Love.

Meanwhile, this year Robert Downey Jr. won Best Supporting Actor not only at the Oscars but also at the Golden Globes, Critic’s Choice Awards, SAG Awards and BAFTA Film Awards. For his acceptance speech at the Oscars, he said, “I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and the academy, in that order. I’d like to thank my veterinarian, I meant my wife, Susan Downey. She found me a snarling rescue pet and you loved me back to life. That’s why I’m here. Thank you. Here’s my little secret. I needed this job more than it needed me. Chris knew it, Emma made sure that she surrounded me with one of the great casts and crews of all time, Emily, Cillian, it was fantastic. And I stand here before you a better man because of it.”
In addition to Robert Downey Jr.’s triumph, Cillian Murphy won Best Actor for Oppenheimer. The crew behind Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer had a successful night, with the filmmaker taking home the Best Director accolade and the movie receiving the prestigious Best Picture award.
