Qatar World Cup organizers hit back at English FA
FA chairman Greg Dyke said Friday that Qatar's extreme heat meant FIFA must either find a new location for the World Cup or anger European leagues by rescheduling it in winter.

London: Qatar World Cup organizers have hit back at the English Football Association for its suggestion that FIFA considers taking the 2022 tournament away from the tiny desert nation.

New English FA chairman Greg Dyke said Friday that Qatar's extreme heat meant FIFA must either find a new location for the World Cup or anger European leagues by rescheduling it in winter.

But the Qatar World Cup's supreme committee said in a statement to The Associated Press that "football is the most popular sport in the Middle East and the people of our region deserve the opportunity to have history made in their part of the world."

The Qataris say they are ready to host the tournament in summer or winter and will work to secure the "agreement of the international football community."
