Palestine scrapped, Nehru Cup to have five nations
AIFF has decided to have only five nations for the Nehru Cup.

New Delhi: All India Football Federation (AIFF) has decided to have only five nations for the Nehru Cup after having scrapped the offer from Palestine who decided to send their club side.

The AIFF called for an urgent meeting which was attended by representatives from ONGC including Dr.Balian, Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) secretary, Bhatia, Zee officials and Indian FA’s Alberto Colaco, Col. Gautam Kar and Anil Kamat.

Speaking to Goal.com, Bhatia said,” In Nehru Cup, we can’t allow any junior sides or even a club team to participate. It’s for national teams as it’s a prestigious tournament.”

When asked as to why the organisation of the tournament has been so poor, Bhatia stated that organisers had done their part.

“The invitations were sent to all teams. It’s their moral duty after accepting our invitation to send their senior tams. It’s not our fault,” added Bhatia.

This edition of the Nehru Cup shall be along the lines of the last edition where there were five nations and the top two shall play the finals. The revised schedule shall be out tomorrow.
