Kolkata: With exactly two weeks left for the International friendly between Argentina and Venezuela, the Yuba Bharati Krirangan is running against time to ready itself for the marquee match featuring Lionel Messi and Co. on September 2.
Celebrity Management Group (CMG), the organisers of the match, maintain that the stadium will be ready by August 25, three days ahead of the arrival of the teams.
With a three-member team here to give the go ahead, the ground reality, however, appears otherwise. With construction continuing on the approach road to the stadium piles of debris, tinsheds and bamboo are yet to be cleared.
On the field, work is on to replace the goalposts, while the artificial turf is yet to be smoothened and the scoreboard replaced as promised earlier.
The 100-seat media box, 44-seat VVIP box are yet to be spruced up, though the tv broadcasting centre is nearing completion.
Work by the PWD is continuing on the 28 toilets for spectators.
West Bengal Sports minister Madan Mitra had promised to give a total facelift to the stadium, but is non-committal at the moment.
"We are not the organisers of the match. We are helping out in renovating the stadium. Sixty per cent of the work is finished and I am sure the remaining will be finished in time," Mitra told PTI.
Mitra said that the monsoon rains delayed the work.
