New Delhi: Diego Armando Maradona led his nation to World Cup victory in 1986 and now the legendary footballer has donned a new cap.
As the coach of the national side and after clinching victory in his first match in-charge, he is making a nation dream again.
The win against Scotland may have come in just an international friendly, but it was definitely a welcome change.
A bad run in the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign, one where they lag seven points behind group leaders Paraguay had a nation losing hope in their side.
But then that's the magic Maradona carries wherever he goes.
"I am very happy with Diego's performance. I saw it as very professional and with good concentration. I was very pleased. And I guess we'll have more players to fill out our team, - this is just the beginning," says an Argentine fan, Roberto de Maria.
His capabilities as a footballer can never be doubted and The FIFA player of the century may have gotten into more than an average footballers share of trouble, but no matter what football for him was always top priority.
Now his aim is to pass his golden touch to his team.
"I have found that I have many players that would die for the shirt. I can assure the Argentine people that they are going to give their all in every game and do everything they can to ensure that the national team gets better and better," Maradona says.
But the ultimate question remains can he really carry on to inspire his team of footballers to the glory he himself experienced more than two decades ago.
The verdict is yet to come out.
"There are players they won't have, but the truth is they played well. It was their first game. We can't make any opinions yet. It's the first one," says another fan Nicolas Alexander.
Argentina's next match will be on the February 11 next year.
