Liverpool: Lucas Leiva is pleased with Liverpool's response to their 4-0 loss away to Tottenham last weekend. Kenny Dalglish's men bounced back with a 2-1 victory over Brighton in the League Cup on Wednesday before winning by the same scoreline against Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday.
"It was an important win," Lucas told the club's official website.
"It was a heavy defeat at Spurs, so it was important to win in the Carling Cup and get three points in the Barclays Premier League which gives us the chance to be closer to the top four.
"We spoke before the game against Brighton. We needed to win, get back on track, go into the next round and come into this game with confidence - and to win too. That is what happened."
Lucas acknowledged that his side found it hard to close out the game against Wolves after going into half-time 2-0 up, with Steven Fletcher getting Mick McCarthy's men back in the game shortly into the second half.
"It was a tough game and we had plenty of chances but only took two,” he added.
"It is hard when you concede a goal early in the second half. We tried to control the game and I think we managed well."
The Reds had several chances in the first half, although they were only able to score twice after Charlie Adam’s shot was headed in for an own goal by Roger Johnson, and Luis Suarez did well to create space for a near-post finish.
"I think sometimes we are a bit unlucky; we twice hit the post and there were a couple of saves by the keeper but that means we are creating chances," he said.
"If we can score more goals it will be good but it was an important win."
