England: Everton strengthened their claims for a top-four finish in the Premier League by beating Norwich 2-0 thanks to goals by Gareth Barry and Kevin Mirallas on Saturday.

Barry scored his 50th goal in England's top division with a fine strike from just outside the area in the 23rd minute, and Mirallas wrapped up the points with a curling free kick just before the hour mark.

Everton will spend the night in fourth place - the final Champions League spot - after leapfrogging Merseyside rival Liverpool, who play Stoke away on Sunday.

Robert Snodgrass hit the post late on for Norwich, which hasn't won in six league matches.

Everton paraded new recruit Aiden McGeady before kickoff after signing the Ireland winger from Spartak Moscow.

Southampton beat West Bromwich Albion 1-0 on Saturday for only a second win in their last 10 games in the English Premier League.

In a match of few highlights, second-half substitute Gaston Ramirez met Nathaniel Clyne's pass with a classy setup for Adam Lallana to score in the 66th minute.

The loss ended West Brom's four-match unbeaten run, the last in charge for assistant coach Keith Downing since Steve Clarke was fired more than a month ago. Clarke's successor, Pepe Mel, was revealed on Thursday and the Spaniard was on hand in the stands at St. Mary's.
