Manchester: Memphis Depay scored his first ever Premier League goal and Wayne Rooney added his first of the season as Manchester United beat Sunderland 3-0 to go top of the standings on Saturday.
United applied plenty of early pressure at Old Trafford, but only found a way through in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time.
A 35-meter pass by Daley Blind found Juan Mata at the back post and the Spaniard's cutback was steered in by Depay, who joined from PSV Eindhoven in June.
Rooney had another United newcomer, Anthony Martial, to thank for his goal, just after the re-start. The French teenager went on a clever run before whipping back a cross that struck Rooney's knee and landed in the net.
Mata added United's third in the 90th.
In another match, Mame Biram Diouf scored late to give Stoke a 2-1 home victory over Bournemouth ofor their first Premier League win of the season.
Diouf came off the bench to head in a cross in the 84th minute for his third goal of the season, lifting Stoke out of the relegation zone following a disappointing start to the campaign for Mark Hughes' team.
Jonathan Walters put Stoke ahead with a tap-in from close range in the 33rd minute but Dan Gosling leveled in the 76th with a low shot after the ball fell to him in the area.
Stoke have six points from seven games, one point behind newcomer Bournemouth.
