New Delhi: All the talk in the lead-up to Barcelona’s tantalising epic with Chelsea in the Champions League has been on the impact Lionel Messi will have on the game.
Many have predictably pin-pointed the Argentine as the key to this fixture, but Florent Malouda has backed up his claim that the Blues are feeling confident of toppling the mighty Catalans at the Camp Nou by revealing how Guus Hiddink has developed a plan to stop Barca and Messi, although he wisely did not unveil any specifics.
"We have prepared ourselves well to play against Barcelona but we will have to wait and see how it goes," he was quoted as saying by Marca.
"The time has come for us to play to our maximum potential and this is the reason why I joined Chelsea: to play in big games like these. Barca are a side who score a lot of goals and everyone enjoys their football. They are technically fast and they have forwards who form a good combination. But we are also a big team and we practice a stronger, more physical game," he said.
"The important thing it to show our quality when the opportunity arises. If we do things well and know when to do them, we can dominate the game and get a good result. "We have been working hard to deal with the threat of Messi. He is the best player in the world and he can do incredible things on the pitch. I just hope that we won’t have to see all of his qualities," he added.
