'Better Than Ligue 1': Cristiano Ronaldo Labels Saudi Pro League More Competitive than French League
Ronaldo, who made the move to Saudi side Al Nassr to set in motion a plethora of big-name signings to the oil-rich nation's domestic league, said that the Middle-Eastern nation's league is more competitive than the French competition.

Portugal and Al Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo opined that the Saudi Pro League, he currently plays in is better than the French Ligue 1 at the Dubai Globesoccer Awards.

Ronaldo, who made the move to Saudi side Al Nassr to set in motion a plethora of big-name signings to the oil-rich nation’s domestic league, said that the Middle-Eastern nation’s league is more competitive than the French competition.

“The level right now, to be honest, I think the Saudi League is not worse than the French League, in my opinion,” the five-time Ballon d’Or winner said.

“In the French league, there are two or three teams at a good level,” he continued.

“In Saudi Arabia, I find it’s more competitive, they can say what they want, it’s my opinion, I’ve played here for a year so I know what I’m saying,” he added.

“But I think right now we are better than the French League,” the 38-year-old said.

Ronaldo, who finished the year 2023 as the top scorer in the calendar year said that he was proud of how he has held up despite closing in on his 39th birthday.

“I was the best goalscorer. Imagine beating the young lions, like Haaland for example,” Ronaldo said.

“I’m 39 soon and I’m still looking good, so I’m proud,” the Al Nassr player said.

Ronaldo, who severed ties with former club Manchester United following the deteriorating relationship between the English side and the player, opined that cross-town rivals Manchester City have a good chance of retaining their UEFA Champions League title, following their maiden triumph at the continental showpiece last year under the tutelage of Spanish maestro Pep Guardiola.

“I think Manchester City has a great chance of winning the Champions League again this season,” the Portuguese star added at the gala, much to the anguish of the United faithful.
