The Rajasthan Education Department has made a significant decision to prohibit the celebration of Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary across all schools in the state. Consequently, the date has been removed from the school calendar. Additionally, the name of the Qaumi Ekta Week, which was previously organised in honour of Indira Gandhi’s death anniversary, has also been changed. Education Minister Madan Dilawar announced these changes, providing details about the new directives.
Dilawar stated that the decision aims to honour a broad spectrum of notable figures in the country. He announced, “Indira Gandhi’s death anniversary will now be observed as Sankalp Diwas. Additionally, the Qaumi Ekta Week, previously held in conjunction with this anniversary, will be renamed Harmony Week.”
Dilawar further explained, “Since Hindi is our mother tongue, we have renamed this week as Harmony Week.” He also criticised Indira Gandhi for imposing the Emergency, asserting that it significantly harmed democracy in the country. He emphasised that the decision is intended to honour other prominent figures in society as well.
