The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to pass an order on a petition to postpone the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Master in Dental Surgery Course (NEET MDS) 2024 and extend the internship cut-off date. The apex court also said that the Centre was “more suited to take a call on the issue,” reported NDTV.
A group of applicants had moved the Supreme Court asking for the postponement of the NEET MDS 2024 exam to July and aligning it with the NEET PG schedule. The request was made to get adequate preparation time for the examination.
A three-judge bench, comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, directed that the representation be dealt with within one week from the date of this matter.
The examination is scheduled to take place on March 18. It was earlier scheduled to be conducted on February 9. It will be held on a computer-based platform at various test centres across India. It consists of two parts — part A carries 100 questions and part B consists of 140 questions. The results will be released by April 18.
The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for Masters of Dental Surgery is an eligibility-cum-ranking entrance exam for students seeking admission to various dental or MDS programmes. Candidates who hold a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from any institute that is registered with the State Dental Council or has either provisional or permanent registration can apply for the exam. Further, a one-year mandatory rotational internship in an approved, recognised dentistry college is required.
NBEMS has also issued the exam calendar for 2024. According to the official notice, the NEET PG 2024 will be held on July 7, and the FMGE 2024 December session will be conducted on January 20 while the June session will be conducted on June 30, 2024.
