Constant Rain Forces Authorities To Shut Govt Schools In Karnataka Until July 12
The Meteorological Department based in Bengaluru has issued an alert of heavy rain in most parts of Karnataka till July 12.

Schools and colleges in Karnataka have been temporarily closed till July 12 due to the state experiencing incessant rainfall with the onset of the monsoon. Many districts of Karnataka, including the coastal areas Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada are affected by these rainfalls. The Meteorological Department based in Bengaluru has issued an alert of heavy rain in most parts of Karnataka till July 12. A red alert was issued for the rainfall at these three places for two days. Besides this, a yellow alert was also issued on July 10 and 11. For those who don’t know about red and yellow alert, they are-

Yellow – Be aware: A yellow alert denotes bad weather conditions and the probability that the conditions might become worse, which can cause disruptions to daily life.

Red – Take action: A red alert is issued when an extremely bad weather condition is expected to disrupt transport and power supply. It might also pose a risk to life.

Besides Karnataka, Mumbai also experienced heavy rainfall leading to a waterlogging situation across multiple areas on July 8. As per the reports, roads were water-logged, railway tracks were submerged and flight operations were suspended due to the low visibility on runways. Andheri subway was also closed temporarily due to water logging and traffic was diverted to Swami Vivekananda Road. Reportedly, a holiday has been declared in schools and colleges in Mumbai and Thane, due to intense rainfall alert warnings. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow alert’ for Mumbai on July 9.

The runway operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport have been temporarily suspended due to heavy rains for the last 24 hours. As per the CNBC report, 50 flights were cancelled due to low visibility after heavy rains in the city. Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reviewed the flood situation in Mumbai and the state.
