Governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have announced that schools in the state will be closed for three days on the occasion of Mahashivratri. It will be celebrated on Friday, March 8 this year. The festival is observed for three days every year but the government declares a holiday for employees and students only on the first day of Shivratri. However, considering the next day is the second Saturday followed by Sunday, there will be three consecutive days of holiday this year. The education department has also issued a notification granting three days of leave.

Mahashivratri is celebrated with grand festivities across India. The day is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Devotees across the country keep fast on this day and worship Lord Shiva to seek his blessings. It is believed that keeping fast and worshipping Lord Shiva for one day on Maha Shivaratri will bestow you with blessings for a lifetime.

Furthermore, in March, students are also expected to get holidays on March 25 due to Holi and March 29 due to Good Friday.

Earlier, the Telangana government had granted a holiday on February 8. On the occasion of the Shab-e-Meraj festival of Muslims.. the government decided to this extent. In the calendar released by the government, February 8 has been declared as a holiday for Shab-e-Meraj. It is considered an auspicious day by Muslims. On that day, these mosques are decorated with lamps.

Besides, the Telangana government announced the closure of schools and colleges in Mulugu district in light of the Medaram Jathara from February 21 to February 24 for both government and private educational institutions in Mulugu district. Often referred to as the Telangana Kumbh Mela, the Medaram Sammakka Saralamma Jatara is celebrated as the largest tribal fair in Asia.
