Uganda’s Frank Nsubuga on Monday scripted history when his team, Uganda locked horns with Afghanistan in Guyana. The 43-year-old became the oldest player in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Frank had made his debut in 1997 at an ICC Zone 6 tournament as a teenager. He had represented the East and Central Africa in the 1997 ICC Trophy at the age of just 16. He made his T20I debut against Botswana on May 20, 2019. So far, he has played 54 T20I, picking up 55 wickets at an economy rate of 4.79.
The official handle of the International Cricket Council (ICC) also shared an interesting fact about Frank Nsubuga on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
“Frank Nsubuga’s 27-year international career alone is older than six of his fellow Ugandan #T20WorldCup teammates. And after finally reaching a World Cup, he insists the Cricket Cranes aren’t here for a holiday,” read the post shared by ICC.

“This is the thing we have been dreaming about our whole lives. To be here. And yes, I’m 43, but my dream came true, and I’m very happy for that,” Frank Nsubuga said earlier this month, as per ICC.
“I’m so proud of this (national) badge in front of me on my shirt. I cannot wait to step on that field. I’m so excited to go and play in this World Cup,” Frank added.
The Uganda cricket team did not have a memorable start to their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign after they were beaten by Afghanistan by 125 runs at the Providence in Guyana. Batting first, Afghanistan posted a solid total of 183 runs at the loss of five wickets. Uganda, in response, folded for a paltry total of 58. Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi claimed a five-wicket haul against Uganda.
