The T20 World Cup 2024 is around the corner and the fans across India and Pakistan are eagerly waiting for the two Asian giants to lock horns in the showpiece event. Nothing would have been better than conducting an India vs Pakistan game in New York as the International Cricket Council (ICC) has taken the tournament to American shores, looking to promote the game in the United States of America. But ahead of the much-awaited clash, the ticket prices have skyrocketed to exorbitant heights.
The initial prices of the tickets were $ 6 (INR 497) during the official sale but the resale market is witnessing a meteoric surge. The tickets for marquee events, including the IND vs PAK encounter, were sold at a rapid rate only to be resold at higher rates.
According to several media reports, tickets on platforms like StubHub and SeatGeek are being resold for at least double their original cost.
The VIP tickets for the India vs Pakistan clash were initially priced at $400 (INR 33000 excluding taxes) on the official website. However, the price has surged to as high as INR 33 Lakh ($ 40,000) on resale platforms. On adding the platform fees, the amount goes even higher; up to $50,000 (INR 41 Lakhs). In fact, one has to spend around $1,259 (INR 1.04 lakhs) to avail of the cheapest ticket for the India vs Pakistan game in New York. On other platforms, the prices are lesser but still over $11, 00.
The rising prices are now competing with the cost of tickets for some major sporting events in the USA. As per last year’s data, the average World Series ticket cost around $1,100 (INR 91k) while the average Super Bowl 58 ticket reached $9,000 (INR 7.45 Lakh). The upcoming India vs Pakistan clash is expected to set a new record as the country gears up to host an ICC for the first time.
On the platform SeatGeek, one would have to splurge a whopping amount of $175,000 (INR 1.4 Crore) to get the costliest ticket for the India vs Pakistan game. And if the additional charges, worth $50,000 (INR 41 Lakhs), are added then it would cost nearly INR 1.86 crore.
