A non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against former cricketer Prashant Vaidya in a cheque-bouncing case. The Bajaj Nagar police station executed the warrant on him in connection with nine bounced cheques totalling ₹1.9 crore.
Vaidya has played four ODIs for the Indian team in the mid-1990s. He was produced before a court which released him on a surety bond.
“Vaidya was brought to the police station to complete formalities of non-bailable warrant and later produced before the special court. We also published the following articles recently” Senior inspector, Bajaj Nagar, Vithal Singh Rajput said as per quoted by Times of India.
He had allegedly purchased steel from a local trader and issued a cheque which bounced, following which the trader demanded that he make fresh payment, said inspector Vitthalsingh Rajput of Bajaj Nagar police station.
The cricketer allegedly refused to pay, so the trader moved the court which issued an NBW against him for skipping court hearings, the official said.
In his four-match ODI career, he picked up four wickets in as many matches. Meanwhile, he claimed 171 scalps in 56 first-class matches.
Vaidya currently heads the cricket development committee of the Vidarbha Cricket Association.
