It was meant to be for the Kolkata Knight Riders as they clinched their third title by beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets in dominant fashion at the finals of the Indian Premier League 2024 which took place at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The players’ emotions were at an all-time high as they managed to the title back after a long period of 10 years which made this title all the more special.
Speaking at the post-match interview, Andre Russell was visibly emotional as he thanked the fans for the support which powered them to an emphatic win. The West Indies all-rounder chipped in with three wickets in the first innings to help KKR restrict SRH to just 113.
“It means so much, fans you are supporting us game after game, making sure we get the job done, – it’s a first we are celebrating a victory, and it is the right moment, this franchise has done so much for me from fitness and everything,” said Russell.

The mystery-spinner, Varun Chakravarthy was also elated with his performances as he finished with a tally of his best tally for a season with 21 wickets and played a crucial part in their run for the championship. He also credited their coach Abhishek Nayyar for the success the franchise has now achieved.
Varun commented, “Great season for me, all I can think of right now, is the Indian core, and the main guy behind this is Abhishek Nayyar”.
Closing out the conversation was Rinku Singh who was elated with the win and has a sense of fulfilment having won the title with the franchise that gave him the opportunity to make a mark after 7 years. Despite not having the best of seasons in terms of his personal performances, he truly deserved the title based on his contributions throughout his time with the franchise.

Rinku concluded by saying, “Outstanding feeling, my dream is fulfilled, I am very happy I am with this franchise for 7 years and we have one the title – I will lift the trophy with my own hands – it’s god’s plan”.
