Michael Vaughan Suggests Ways To Ensure More Transparency in DRS Calls
Former England captain Michael Vaughan has urged the ICC to arrange a camera and microphones inside the DRS room where the television officials discuss their decision.

England have been unsatisfied with the Decision Review System (DRS) that has been used in the ongoing Test series in India. Ben Stokes, the captain of the visiting unit, has expressed his disappointment over the third umpire’s call twice so far. Amid controversy over the technological error, former England skipper Michael Vaughan has come up with some suggestions to resolve the issue.

The cricketer-turned-pundit has urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to arrange a camera and microphones inside the DRS room where the television officials discuss their decision.

According to Michael Vaughan, the governing body should take this matter seriously as the emergence of social media has made it easy for fans and others to re-assess every single event that transpired on the field. Thus, there is more scope for raising questions against the official broadcasters and the third umpire nowadays.

It automatically puts the hosts in a tricky situation, no matter if they had brought the technology from other countries.

In his column for The Telegraph, Michael Vaughan wrote, “It only takes one look at social media to see that a lot of people don’t trust it. There is so much anger and suspicion about decisions that go for or against certain teams. There’s suspicion about host broadcasters and who is in the truck. That is despite the technology companies not being from the same country as the host broadcaster.”

Suggesting how the ICC could enable more transparency in this regard, Vaughan wrote, “Stick a camera and microphone in the truck so as a decision is being made, we all know exactly what is going on, and how much humans are involved. And if you stick an ICC official in there as well we’d know that the integrity – something we talk so much about in the game – is intact.”

As far as the series is concerned, England are reeling 1-3 with one more game to go. After winning the opening game by 28 runs, the visiting unit failed miserably with the bat in the subsequent fixtures. India ultimately sealed the deal by winning the fourth Test by 434 runs.
