The video of Goenka’s animated chat with Rahul has been widely shared on social, leading to strong criticism from the netizens

Discussions are rife about possible unrest in the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) camp after dramatic scenes unfolded at the Rajeev Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batters – Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma – chased down a 166-run in just 9.4 overs, handing a 10-wicket defeat to KL Rahul’s Lucknow, almost quashing their playoff hopes.

The defeat led to an animated discussion between LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka and Rahul that went on air. Since that incident, there has been no activity on Lucknow’s social media accounts while the players too have distanced themselves from making any posts on public domains.

The video of Goenka’s animated chat with Rahul has been widely shared on social, leading to strong criticism from the netizens. Fans and cricket experts have condemned the LSG owner’s act, suggesting that such a conversation should have been carried out behind the curtains.

Meanwhile, Goenka has restricted his followers on social media from commenting on his posts. Though the disappointed fans have been bashing him on public platforms but are not able to react directly to his posts at the moment.

As reported by The Indian Express, the owners questioned the team’s approach against SRH during Wednesday’s fixture and pointed out that the intent was missing. The thrashing in Hyderabad affected LSG’s net run-rate which now means that their playoff qualification will majorly depend on the results of the other games.

Business as usual after the defeat

The report further stated that despite a tense atmosphere in the dressing room, it was a ‘business as usual’. However, there were conversations about Rahul’s association with the franchise going forward.

Rahul to Step Down?

The viral video also fanned the speculative fire that the India star batter might quit captaincy. However, LSG sources on Thursday were quick to dispel all such reports, claiming that “everything is fine between the team and the owner”.

Some media reports on Thursday claimed that Goenka reportedly apologised to Rahul after facing flak on social media. Some reports also claimed that Rahul might be relieved of captaincy captain and vice-captain Nicholas Pooran put in charge instead.
