Kesrick Williams, Who Paid the Price for Mocking Kohli with Notebook Celebration, Reacts to Tanzim Sakib's Sendoff

Giving sendoffs of Virat Kohli has always made a bowler pay a hefty price, either on the field itself or on social media. The recent incident happened during India’s T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 tie against Bangladesh in Antigua where the men in blue were asked to bat first. Kohli was marching along and had just completed 3000 runs in the tournament when Bangladesh pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib cleaned him up with a slower delivery. The right-arm quick gave a roaring send-off to Kohli who was gutted to be clean bowled for 37 off 28.

Sakib’s celebration soon became viral on social media platforms while Indian fans began trolling the Bangladesh fast bowler. Meanwhile, West Indies pacer Kesrick Williams has also reacted to the incident.

For the unversed, Williams was the bowler who mocked Kohli with a notebook celebration which drew the attention of the fans. He would take out an imaginary notebook, supposedly write the name of the batter he dismissed and check it off the list. He did the same against Kohli during a white-ball series in the West Indies in 2017.

But a few months later, he had to taste his own medicine. Kohli launched a juggernaut against him in another white-ball series, this time in India. The then-Indian captain smashed 32 runs off the 12 deliveries he faced against Williams and gave it back with the notebook celebration.

So, after Tanzim Sakib’s act went viral on social media, Wiliams reacted to a meme where his edited image seemed to be telling Tanzim to get ready for a similar onslaught from Kohli in the future.

‘Kez 2-1 Kohli,’ he wrote in his story.

India will now face Australia in their next Super 8 tie and victory will ensure them a semi-final spot as the Group 1 table-topper. Team India is one of the two unbeaten sides in the ongoing tournament and have almost secured a semi-final spot.

Australia, on the other, suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of Afghanistan in the previous encounter. They will be in a must-win situation when they face the men in blue on Monday in St Lucia.
