IPL 2024, PBKS vs DC: Shikhar Dhawan, Arshdeep Singh, David Warner Eye Milestones
Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings begin IPL 2024 campaign today when the two teams square off in Mullanpur.

With the 17th season of the Indian Premier League now underway, Punjab Kings are set to lock horns with the Delhi Capitals in the tournament’s first day-game.

The eagerly-awaited clash will be played on Saturday (March 23) at the newly constructed MYSI Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh. The match will see DC skipper Rishabh Pant play his first competitive match since December 2022.

The southpaw has been out of action since his near-fatal car accident in 2022.

Meanwhile, the newly acquired Harshal Patel could make his debut for PBKS in the upcoming clash. Given all the hype surrounding the PBKS vs DC match, let’s take a look at the major milestones that can be reached in today’s T20 battle.

Warner Eyes Milestone

DC batting star David Warner has proven himself to be a consistent run-scorer in IPL history. He is currently the leading overseas scorer in the T20 tournament with 6397 runs. Apart from his impressive tally, Warner is closing in on an incredible IPL feat. He is currently just four boundaries shy of reaching the 650 landmark which he could attain in DC’s opener against PBKS today. The first player to secure this milestone is Warner’s former Sunrisers Hyderabad teammate Shikhar Dhawan who is also currently leading the chart with 750 IPL fours in his career.

Dhawan Eyes Most IPL Fifties by an Indian

Dhawan could potentially become the Indian batter with most fifties in his opening game of the tournament. He is currently tied with Royal Challengers Bengaluru superstar Virat Kohli at 50 half-centuries each in the T20 franchise league. Another fifty in Saturday’s game will see Dhawan surpass his compatriot. However, the PBKS skipper is still a distance behind Warner’s impressive tally of 61 half-centuries in IPL history. Dhawan is also the tournament’s second-highest run scorer having racked up 6617 runs in 217 matches. He has achieved that number while averaging 35.38 at a strike rate of 127.17.

Arshdeep Fourth-highest Wicket-taker for PBKS

Rising star Arshdeep could become the fourth-highest wicket-taker for PBKS in today’s match. If Arshdeep manages to take two scalps against DC, he will tie Mohammed Shami’s tally of 58 wickets with PBKS. The left-arm pacer is also currently just five scalps shy of completing the 150-wicket landmark in T20 cricket.
