Cricketer Rinku Singh believes in staying positive even when he is going through a lean patch. The Kolkata Knight Riders star recently featured in a candid interview for the official website of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Southpaw has not been at his best in the ongoing season. He has managed to rack up 168 runs at an underwhelming average of 18.66. Rinku looks hopeful about returning to form soon and winning a major trophy for his country. He wants to fulfil the wish by triumphing in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title beginning on June 2.
Many fans were left disheartened when Rinku Singh failed to grab a place in India’s 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup. He, however, was picked as a travelling reserve. The setback seems to have hardly affected his passion and dedication towards the sport.
“Since I have played cricket, I have won some trophies at junior level. But not at the senior level. I am going to the World Cup. I want to hold the WC trophy, I hope we win. My dream is to win a big trophy for my country and lift it in my hands,” Rinku Singh said.
Despite potentially missing out on an opportunity to represent India in a World Cup, Rinku Singh doesn’t want to consider it a bad phase in his career. He said, “Time kharab uska hota hai jiske haath pair nahi hote, hamare toh hain. Hamara time kharab nahi hai (Time is bad for people who don’t have their limbs. But I do have them. So, my time is never bad)”
Rinku Singh became an overnight sensation after he struck five sixes in an over against Gujarat Titans’ Yash Dayal in the last edition of the IPL. According to the KKR batter, the feat helped him earn recognition, making a great impact on his emerging career.
“After those five sixes, my life changed. I started getting ads. People started to recognise me. Now I cannot go out alone. It feels good when hoardings of my name are there when people scream my name. I feel that I have done something in my life,” he recalled.
Rinku Singh will look to showcase his A-game when Kolkata Knight Riders square off against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 1 of the ongoing IPL. The highly anticipated face-off will be hosted at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 21.
