Rohit Sharma’s Team India will lock horns against South Africa on Saturday in Barbados to secure their second T20 World Cup title. Under Rohit’s leadership, India reached the final of the ODI World Cup last year on home soil. The hosts had stayed undefeated throughout the competition but couldn’t overcome a Pat Cummins-led Australia in the summit showdown. With India replicating the unbeaten run in this T20 World Cup, former skipper Sourav Ganguly feels Rohit will find it hard to digest if the team loses another ICC tournament final under his captaincy.
IND vs SA, T20 World Cup 2024 Final Live Score
Sourav Ganguly shared his thoughts about the India vs South Africa T20 World Cup final and spoke highly of Rohit Sharma, referring to his fearless batting approach. But as a captain, Ganguly reckons the veteran opener will require a “little bit of luck to win a big tournament” like the T20 World Cup.
“I don’t think he can lose two World Cup finals in seven months. He will probably jump into the Barbados ocean if he loses two finals under his captaincy in seven months. He has led from the front and batted brilliantly, and I hope it continues tomorrow. Hope India finishes on the right side, and they should play with freedom. They have been the best side of the competition,” Sourav Ganguly told the news agency.
The former BCCI president highlighted Rohit Sharma’s captaincy records in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Indian opener has won five titles as the skipper of the Mumbai Indians. According to Ganguly, winning an IPL trophy can be more difficult but becoming the World Cup champion is a matter of greater pride.
“Rohit has a record of winning five IPL titles, which is a huge achievement. Winning an IPL sometimes is more difficult. Don’t misquote me, I’m not saying IPL is better than international cricket. But you have to win 16-17 (12-13) matches to win an IPL. Here you need to win 8-9 matches to win a World Cup. The honour is more in winning the World Cup, and I hope Rohit does it tomorrow,” Ganguly explained.
Rohit Sharma holds a stellar record as a T20I captain. He surpassed Pakistan’s Babar Azam to become the most successful captain in the format after India thumped England in the T20 World Cup semi-final. Since 2017, Rohit has captained the Indian team in 61 T20Is, winning 49 of them.
