The BCCI has just announced the Annual Player Contracts for Team India (Senior Men’s) for the 2023-24 season. This includes the period from October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024. The announcement includes some new entrants like Yashasvi Jaiswal and also has removed some big names like Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan as well.
Grade A+ (4 Athletes) – INR 7 Crore
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja.
Grade A (6 Athletes) – INR 5 Crore
R Ashwin, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya.
Grade B (5 Athletes) – INR 3 Crore
Surya Kumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Grade C (15 Athletes) – INR 1 Crore
Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, Ruturaj Gaekwad, Shardul Thakur, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, Mukesh Kumar, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, KS Bharat, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan and Rajat Patidar.
In addition to this, the BCCI also mentioned that players who play a minimum of 3 Tests 8 ODIs or 10 T20Is within the period will be included in the Grade C contracts on a pro-rata basis
The board has also announced fast-bowling contracts for Akash Deep, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal and Vidwath Kaverappa.
Akash Deep
Akash Deep had made his debut in the fourth Test between India and England at Ranchi where he impressed many with the ball in the first spell. He went on to pick up the wickets of the England top order to begin his international career on a high.
Vijaykumar Vyshak
Vijaykumar Vyshak has been part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL and with Karnataka in the domestic circuit. He had an impressive performance against Tamil Nadu in unfavourable conditions at Chepauk where he managed to pick up seven wickets in the presence of the chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar watching from the stands.
Umran Malik
Umran Malik made his rise to the Indian team after showcasing his raw pace in the IPL. But after his run which lasted for 10 ODIs and 8 T20Is, he has not been part of the Indian side since July last year.
Yash Dayal
Yash Dayal was in the headlines after Rinku Singh hit him for five sixes in the final over in the IPL. However, he managed to come back stronger playing for Uttar Pradesh in the domestic circuit. He was also part of the India A starting eleven where he managed to pick up seven wickets in the two unofficial Tests against the England Lions.
Vidwath Kaverappa
The pacer has been a regular for Karnataka since 2022 and has made a good impression having picked up a 10-wicket haul against Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy. He then went on to be part of the India A squad as well. He picked up 1 wicket in the tour match and picked up 2 wickets in the first unofficial Test.
