India’s Test calendar will be leading up to the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy that is set to take place in November, later this year. The Indian Team will once again come against their rivals Down Under, but this time the Aussies could be even hungrier than before to take a Test series win.
In a conversation with Star Sports, the Australian fast-bowler, Josh Hazlewood is relishing the chance to take on the Indian team. He praised the Indian batting unit and the many talents that keep being produced within the cricketing nation.
“Yeah Probably sums it up there, toughest rivalry. It’s always a great challenge playing against India, and they are so used to the conditions out here, they love it. You know in Australia the challenge is huge. They’re batting their top order, no matter who’s playing, is unbelievable, their top six or seven,” Hazlewood said.
The fast bowler recalled his first match-up against the Indian side in 2014. During his debut Test which took place in Brisbane, Hazlewood managed to rack up seven wickets across both innings to help the Aussies take the win by four wickets.
He shared, “I played them in my debut series, obviously, and we got the win, that might have been the last time. A lot of the same players are still playing, I think I got Virat in that game. So a lot of our players, I guess, haven’t beaten India in a test series”.
“The guys were playing, such as Travis Head, Cameron Green, guys like that. So, yeah, huge summer for us coming up and hopefully get that trophy back,” he added.
Hazlewood also revealed that while most of his teammates are the same, the young guns like Green and Head who are fairly new to the Australian setup would be eager to help reclaim the title that has evaded the Aussies for a decade.
Head on the other hand has been relishing his contests against India playing a starring role in the World Test Championship Final and the 2023 ODI World Cup final as well. He would be looking to recreate the feats against the Indian team.
