Pakistani Fans Tear Apart Babar Azam's Men After Humbling Loss to Afghanistan in ICC World Cup 2023
Afghanistan stunned Pakistan in ICC World Cup 2023 contest in Chennai by defeating Babar Azam's men by 8 wickets in what turned out to be a one-sided affair.

A dominant Afghanistan looked in complete control of the proceedings while successfully chasing a steep target of 283 posted by Pakistan at the Chepauk Stadium in ICC World Cup 2023 clash in Chennai on Monday. Pakistan, on the other hand, appeared uninspired on the field while their bowling attack had no answers to the onslaught brought upon by the Afghanistan openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65) and Ibrahim Zadran (87).

The duo piled up impressive 130 runs for the opening stand as the run chase swiftly turned into a one-sided affair. Rahmat Shah (77*) and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (48*) carried on the attack to bring home a stunning, yet comfortable victory over Pakistan with 8 wickets and an over to spare.

Pakistan were served one of the biggest upsets of this World Cup thus far, sending shock waves across. The fact that Babar Azam’s men had lost the previous two contests against India and Australia respectively and that this was their third consecutive defeat in the tournament didn’t help the cause either.

A hard loss to swallow, disgruntled Pakistani fans minced no words as they tore apart their own team on microblogging website ‘X’ with some self-deprecating humour.

Notably, this was Afghanistan’s first ever win against Pakistan in an ODI contest.

Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. Captain Babar Azam lead from the front with 77 runs to his name, being the top run-scorer on the day in the Pakistan camp. Abdullah Shafique once again impressed with the bat as the Pakistani opener slammed 58. Late fireworks by Iftikhar Ahmed (40 off 27) propelled Pakistan to a total of 282/7 that seemed ample before Afghanistan took up the challenge with the bat and made a mockery out of Pakistan’s bowling unit.

Afghanistan have now climbed the table to the 6th spot with 4 points adjacent to their name while Pakistan stood 5th with as many points.
