Tamil actor-director G Marimuthu passed away at the age of 58 due to a massive heart attack. Reports from India Today indicate that the actor was in the middle of dubbing for a TV show called Ethir Neechal when he suddenly collapsed. He was then rushed to a hospital in Chennai, where he was declared dead. His unexpected demise has left the Tamil film industry in shock. He is survived by his wife and two children.
The actor gained widespread recognition in Tamil Nadu through his roles in the Sun TV series Ethirneechal and his significant part in Superstar Rajinikanth’s movie Jailer. In 2008, he tried his hand at directing with Kannum Kannum, a romantic film. Critics liked it, but it didn’t do well in theatres. But his last directorial work, Pulivaal, starring Vimal and Prasanna, was a big hit at the box office.
He shot to fame for his role as a corrupt police officer in the 2011 thriller Yuddham Sei. He then delivered impressive performances in movies like Marudhu and Kaththi Sandal. Meanwhile, Ethirneechal, featuring Marimuthu in the lead role as Adi Gunasekaran, is among the most loved Tamil TV shows. Directed by Thiruselvam, the program aims to spotlight the challenges women face in society and their path towards empowerment.
Several Tamil celebrities mourn the sudden death of the actor-producer. Sun Pictures, the production company that worked with Rajinikanth in Jailer, Marimuthu’s last film, offered a heartfelt tribute, expressing, “Our condolences! Your contributions were exceptional and will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace.”
Rajinikanth expressed his condolences to the actor’s family in Tamil, saying, “Marimuthu was an amazing person. His sudden passing deeply saddens me. My heartfelt sympathies to his family.”
Actor Karthi wrote, “I met #Marimuthu sir when he was an assistant Director in Nerukku Ner. He was a seasoned actor and a stunning performer who could present every character realistically. He was well-read and a passionate cinema aficionado. His sudden passing away is a huge shock. Deepest Condolences to his family, friends and fans”.
Thiruchelvam who directed the Anti-Swimming serial also shared his condolences. Cast and crew of the Anti-Swimming serial also paid tearful tributes to G Marimuthu.
