Roses for Essar, with love Vodafone!
"Today is Valentine's Day, we are sending roses to Ruias and will visit them," Vodafone chief Arun Sarin said.

New Delhi: The battle of corporate telecom giants acquired a hint of Gandhigiri on Wednesday with Vodafone chief executive Arun Sarin promising to send roses to estranged Indian partner Essar

Sarin hoped Ruias will choose to stay invested in the Hutch-Essar mobile telecom venture and said he will make all the efforts to placate them.

Essar has threatened to put spokes in the UK company's $18.8 billion deal with HTIL.

"Today is Valentine's Day, we are sending roses to Ruias and will visit them. How else do you think we can be more nice to them? We have a true desire to partner them," Sarin told a news conference.

However, flowers was all it came to. When it came to compromising on the offer for Essar's 33 per cent stake in Hutch-Essar, Sarin wasn’t to be convinced.

"Vodafone will not increase its offer for Essar. It will be same as that for Hutchison Telecom's stake," he said.

While it was not known whether Essar accepted his flowers, Sarin said his first, second and third preference would be that the Indian conglomerate should stay put. "But its their (Essar's) decision... my intention is to help Essar take a positive decision."
