New Delhi: Rupee one, Rupees two and Rupees five rupee coins would now be available through vending machines, thanks to the Reserve Bank, which has advised banks to install them to facilitate their distribution.
“The move is to facilitate the availability of coins for bank customers and common man," RBI regional director A Udgat told PTI.
The RBI wants that all the banks should install such vending machines at important places where people can exchange currency notes for coins, he said.
The state office of RBI has already started the facility where coins worth Rs 100 have been kept and can be exchanged by giving notes.
He said that both public and private sector banks including State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank and ICICI Bank have shown interest in the machine and PNB has already purchased a few vending machines.
The vending machines will help people as well as banks save time, he added.
