New Delhi: Indian equity markets were trading with a modest gain early on Wednesday after a mixed opening. Metal and capital goods stocks are also in demand.
The 30-share benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, opened with a gain of 13.63 points at 12,948.05. Ten minutes into trading, it reached 13,118.94, a gain of 157.26 points or 1.21 percent from its closing figure on Tuesday.
At the same time the S&P Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange was trading at 3,935.20 points with a gain of 38.45 points or 0.99 percent from its last close.
The market breadth was positive. On BSE 747 shares advanced, 622 declined and 36 remained unchanged.
Satyam Computers, Wipro Ltd and Reliance Communication were among the top gainers while DLF, ICICI Bank and Grasim Industries were among the top losers in initial trade.
BSE IT index, advanced 82 points or 2.1 per cent, is the biggest gainer among the sectoral indices.
Other Asian markets were trading lower.
