Insurance Bill proposing a hike in FDI limit sent to 15 member select committee

New Delhi: The Insurance bill that proposes to hike the FDI limit in insurance to 49% has been sent to a 15 member select committee.

The committee comprises of BJP's Chandan Mitra, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, JP Nadda, Congress' Anand Sharma, JD Seelam, BSP MP SC Mishra, JDU's KC Tyagi, CPI's P Rajeev and SAD's Naresh Gujral. Sources have said that the committee will be headed by a BJP leader, though the Congress had sought the chairperson's position.

Opposition TMC MP Derek O' Brien said that select committee will have to consult all stakeholders with no pushing or rushing as government does not have the numbers in Rajya Sabha.
