New Delhi: Inflation has risen to 5.64 per cent for the week ended January 17, from 5.60 per cent in the previous week, reports PTI.
About a little under three weeks ago, on January 10, India's wholesale price index had risen to 5.60 per cent in the 12 months to January 10, above the then previous week's annual rise of 5.24 per cent, government data had showed on the preceding Thursday.
It was well above a median forecast in a Reuters poll of analysts of 5.05 per cent, then.
That figure then, was compared to the annual inflation rate during the corresponding week of the previous year which had stood at 4.36 per cent. The week-on-week rise has stunned people and analysts.
The wholesale price index is more closely watched than the consumer price index, which is published monthly, because it covers a higher number of products and is released weekly.
